To date, hydropower plants have been an essential part of the energy sector. Also, the inspection quality is limited due to poor visibility and human error. To keep hydropower plants running consistently despite immense forces induced by water, there is a need for regular inspection and maintenance of impoundment facilities, diversion facilities, as well as the pumped storage of hydropower. These are extremely difficult and dangerous tasks for human divers and impose outrageous costs as well as lengthy plant downtime. In addition, the inspection quality is limited as a result of poor underwater visibility and human error.
Our drone addresses the challenges of hydropower plants by conducting underwater inspections of turbines and infrastructure, facilitating early detection of issues such as sediment accumulation or equipment damage. Tethys Robotics’ solution can navigate in confined spaces and provide real-time data to enhance maintenance efficiency, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime. The use of our drone further contributes to divers’ safety in potentially hazardous underwater environments. In addition, the ability of our drone to create 3D mappings of underwater environments portrays an intelligent tool in the planning and construction phase of new plant projects.
